SPREAD AND TRANSMISSION
Chickenpox is a very contagious disease caused by the varicella- zoster virus. It can be spread easily from people to others who never received chickenpox before or the vaccine. The virus spreads throughout the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It also spreads by physical contact or breathing in the virus particles that come from chickenpox blisters.
Chickenpox is known to be easily transmissible from person to person. 90% of non-immune household contacts of someone infected with chickenpox will contract the disease. Transmission of the chickenpox can appear as respiratory tract secretions, respiratory droplets and fluid from the blisters. A person is usually infectious for one or two days before the rash starts to appearing to the timing of the blisters crust over and eventually have no liquid contained in them. |
